Where is Graylag?
Graylag is located in south-central New Hampshire in the Southern tier of the Lakes Region. We are about 20 miles east of Concord, 30 miles northeast of Manchester and Manchester Airport, and 40 miles west of Portsmouth and the New Hampshire seacoast. We are 80 miles northwest of Boston, easily accessible from I-93 or I-95.

Who gets the most from a Graylag vacation?
The people who get the most from Graylag are looking for simple pleasures and rustic comfort in a natural environment.  If you enjoy swimming, paddling, sailing, fishing, hiking, listening to the ball game on the radio, sitting around a campfire under the stars, and picking wild blueberries, you’ll like it here at Graylag.

We don’t offer power boats, hot tubs, TV, or air conditioning, but we offer a warm atmosphere, woodland privacy, and wonderful quietness and peace.

Graylag is the perfect place for family reunions and small business retreats. Rent multiple cabins or the entire property. Group rates apply. Call for details.

How private is it?
Graylag’s 140 acres of woodland border the entire southern/southwestern shore of Wild Goose Pond. There are only a few other cottages on the pond, mostly on the eastern shore. Our waterfront is approximately one mile from the town road. Our three rental cabins are out of sight of each other. All of these buildings have screened and/or open porches or decks. All three cabins have access to the waterfront, the fire pit, and the property’s woodland trails. Graylag has an atmosphere where guests can be as private as they wish or cross paths with other guests.

Are there any caretakers on the property when guests are there?
The owner lives on the property, though out of sight of the three cabins. He or someone else is always available.

How clean is Wild Goose Pond?
The pond is a very clean, spring-fed body of water for swimming, boating, and fishing.
It received a high rating in the most recent monitoring (2003) by the N.H. Department of Environmental Services.

Are there telephones?
Birches Family Lodge has a telephone with local service. (For long-distance calls, bring a phone card.) The owner’s house is a short distance from the other two cabins, and in case of emergency, his phone can be used. And if someone at home urgently needs to reach you, they can reach you at the Graylag number.

Do cell phones work at Graylag?
Sometimes – it depends on the carrier and model of phone. There is a hilly spot about a mile up Clough Road where we recommend you go to get better reception.

Is there internet access?
Yes. We have a wireless internet café on-site, so you can check your emails on your laptop while you are on vacation – computers are not provided.

What is provided?
We provide all bed, kitchen, and bath linens; beach towels; bath soap and shampoo; dish soap; toilet paper and paper towels; and insect repellant. To protect our watershed, all of the soaps and shampoos are nontoxic, phosphate-free, and biodegradable, and all paper products are 100% recycled. Each cabin is fully furnished and has a completely equipped kitchen. Each also has a flashlight, gas or charcoal grill, and combination radio/CD player/cassette player, and a supply of playing cards, board games and books.
The waterfront has canoes, kayaks, sailboats, paddles, life jackets, and beach chairs for guests to use, as well as a dock and raft.

May I bring my pet?
We are not able to accommodate pets but can recommend boarding kennels nearby.
